Dorn method & Breuss massage
I am an advanced Dorn Method Practitioner and registered with the Dorn Method Therapists Association (DMTA).
The Dorn Method was developed in Germany nearly 40 years ago by Dieter Dorn. It focuses on the causes of common Back and Joint pain and today is used by thousands of therapists all over the world. Dorn is a gentle manual non-manipulative therapy, which is very safe and involves no 'clicking' or 'crunching' sensations which some people fear or dislike. It is also suitable for people of all ages.
The aim of Dorn Method therapy is to help people who suffer from Back and Joint Pain including:
Difference in leg length, etc.
Dorn is a gentle and very safe manual therapy developed to correct misalignments of the Spinal Column and other joints, which so often are the cause of pain and grief.
Rather than remaining passive, a person undergoing Dorn therapy works together with the Dorn Therapist at all times using dynamic techniques designed to help vertebrae and joints slip more easily back into their natural positions without using any heavy force or thrust moves.
During Dorn Method therapy, the client actively moves the joint while the therapist gently pushes or guides it back into its proper position using only the thumb or hand. At work are logical mechanical principles of counter pressure and levering forces in combination with the active participation of the client who provides muscle mobilisation, and this form of correction is usually readily accepted by our body.
During movement the muscles are in a distracted state and it is reasonably easy to realign the joints without having to overcome much muscle “resistance”. Step by step, the joint is guided back into its proper natural position. This form of manual therapy is completely safe because it requires only light pressure, and the correction pressure is halted as soon as any pain arises, and no thrust moves or heavy pressure is used at all.
The Breuss Massage is a very gentle Spinal Massage that safely stretches, nourishes, aligns and energises the spine.
The Breuss Massage was developed by the late Austrian Healer Rudolf Breuss and combines perfectly with the Dorn Method. Rudolf Breuss said that there is no such thing as ‘wear’ of intervertebral disc but instead that the discs are ‘degenerated’, he was convinced that regeneration was possible. Certainly the results achieved with the Breuss Massage suggest that this is the case!
The spine is like any other living organism, which is in a constant state of ‘stress and relief’. It not only needs nourishment and rest, but also the right amount of ‘stress’ in the form of active movements to maintain its strength and function. During the day our spine and especially our ‘discs’ are stressed and they need to fulfil their duty as shock-absorbers whenever we stand, walk or sit.
These discs are consequently squeezed and some of the liquid within gets out making the discs thinner. We are actually a little shorter in the evening compared to the morning after standing up. During sleep the spine relaxes and stretches out, and the discs can somewhat regenerate by ‘sucking’ back in the liquid they lost during the day, almost like a dry sponge placed in water. This mechanism is altered in a negative way when our metabolism is not in balance or impaired for many different reasons.
The Breuss Massage actually stretches the spine, and acts rather like a whole nights worth of healthy sleeping.
